The Nutcracker

Nutcrackers are useful, decorative and seasonal.

During Christmas, you climb up into the attic, and take out all of this useless junk, just to be stashed away not a month later. Part of you doesn't even know why you do it; probably because your parents always made you do it and it just stuck—they were always too religious about these stupid things. You locate the little guy, dust him off and set him on the mantle. When your friends and family come over, you show him off, reminisce about the good times, and put it away. It sits there for three weeks, overlooking all, but almost entirely ignored, if anything, it just gets in the way of 'more important things'. At the of the season, you put it away, and finally get on with your life, treated like this for years.

Jesus Should not be.

Too many of us take our 'jesus' out on Sunday mornings, wave him around, and loose him before we even hit the Denny's, harassing the waitress for the poor food quality. You go to your school or workplace, talking and acting like the rest of your buddies that only appreciate Christmas half-heartedly, less than 4% of the year. Then coming home, you complain how tough work was, how hard life it.

Why?

Yea life is hard! Have you ever tried crushing a walnut with your bare hands? With two hands? Eighty of your lunch buddies couldn't crack it for you. What now? One little wooden decoration shows that nut who's boss with little effort. Coincidence? Oh, right, you just softened it up for Him, didn't you?

What does this show us so clearly?

All of your earthly comfort and vices couldn't do anything to help you when you really needed it.

When you finally crack the tough shell on life, you'll find that in the middle of all that hard strife, it really is nourishing and good for you, share it with your friends!
